Behavioral Health Services for Individuals, Couples, & Families

Services Provided

Screening / Assessment / Referral

Any person within the ANDC service area will have timely access to a screening/assessment to determine needs and eligibility. Individuals, who are not eligible for treatment services through ANDC, will be referred to the appropriate agency for assistance.

Assessment

The purpose of the initial assessment is to determine individual needs, the severity of those needs, and the service that would best meet those needs. The assessment process involves meeting with a mental health professional between one and two hours. Psychosocial history, current symptoms and problems impacting life, and level of functioning are assessed to help determine the needs of the individual.

Psychological Testing

Psychological testing is best defined as “the process of administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological tests” (Maloney & Ward, 1976, p. 9). All psychological tests require an individual to perform one or more behaviors, and these behaviors are used to measure some personal attribute, trait, or characteristic thought to be important in describing or understanding the behavior or to predict an outcome. However, psychological tests can and do differ in terms of the behaviors they require individuals to perform, the attributes they measure, their content, how they are administered and formatted, how they are scored and interpreted, and their psychometric quality.

Test scores are used to diagnose mental disorders, to determine whether medicines should be prescribed (and, if so, which ones), to treat mental and emotional illnesses, to select individuals for jobs, to select individuals for undergraduate and professional schools (for example, medical school, law school), and to determine grades.

Hiring decisions can dramatically affect both the person being hired and the hiring organization. From the organization’s perspective, a poor hiring decision can result in increased absenteeism, reduced morale of other staff, and lost productivity and revenue. From the employee’s perspective, a poor hiring decision may result in a loss of motivation, increased stress leading to depression and anxiety, and perhaps loss of opportunity to make progress in his or her career. ANDC performs testing for Business and the below requirements do not apply.
